Session Info
Essex Systems
Lou has been an Omnis Developer for a very long time; one of the first in the world, in fact, having started with early DOS-only versions back in '82, '83. Essex Systems was the first Omnis Development Center in the world, as well - a program developed under 'prior management' at Omnis.
Lou was one of the founders of The Macintosh Consultants Network, a group comprised primarily of Omnis Developers. he was also the Director of Blyth & Associates, Omnis' only foray into the world of direct-to-client Professional Services, focusing on Omnis' very largest accounts.
Session Info:
Securing your Omnis applications
We'll be drilling down beyond simple SSL security in this session. We'll cover how to implement highest-level security in PostgreSQL and, now, MySQL (new features!), as well as exploring how to get the most from other secured services in Omnis.
But we go further, showing how to integrate certificate authentication directly into your Omnis applications, providing a model for end-to-end management of the application lifecycle: demo-production-upgrades.
Tying it all together, this presents a new model - for placing Omnis applications at the center of Cloud Computing.
Given time, we'll touch on a few other things in this session: LDAP-, Kerberos-integration for authentication and identity management in a PostgreSQL-based environment.
Cloud computing concepts
This session we'll take a look at details of leveraging cloud computing concepts.
What is The Cloud? New Opportunities? How to add value to existing Omnis Apps?
Let The Cloud do the hard work for you!
In this session we'll be touching on various uses of Cloud Computing:
-We'll demonstrate some use of Web Services, both producing some examples from the Cloud, and consuming them, all based on data from your Omnis apps.
-We'll touch on RESTful interfaces, JSON, XML, XSLT...
-Still doing all your work in Omnis Lists? How much can your work in Omnis be enhanced by use of Prepared Statements, Custom Functions and Server-Side Cursors?
-How to manage, and analyze, large data sets - such as in DataMining and statistical applications.
-We'll demonstrate a mechanism for developing amazing presentation-quality graphics from these data, using Omnis as the front end.
We may have time to touch on how to leverage backend processing in The Cloud using Regex functions, and perhaps even touch on loosly-structured data, a huge trend in the cloud, from Omnis. We'll expolre use of NOTIFY, manipulation of UTF8 data and Internationalization of your Omnis apps, opening up broader market opportunities.
Of course, in this session, we'll also touch on security to the extent attendees want to.
